ConoverBond is making a go of a project in Portland. The two and three story warehouse built in 1923 that once housed the General Automotive Company will be completely refurbished and topped off with an additional two stories. When complete, the $10 million + project will provide over 48,000 square feet of office and retail/restaurant space less than a block away from the Pearl District.

Conversion of fast food restaurants is nothing new. In fact there's an entire website dedicated to documenting the reuse of these sometimes iconic buildings. Not Fooling Anybody is a chronicle of bad conversions and storefronts from some of the most recognized fast food chains - the results are hilarious.

A quick drive by the building at 3rd and Maple yesterday and we noticed that the 'refacing' of the once brick building is nearly complete. As expected this baby's all sealed up save the corner display and glass garage door. The soft white (or is that eggshell?) dryvit looked cold to the touch and all texture and interest has been stripped away. Clearly an improvement. Excuse us for a moment....bleaaarrrrggghhh!
LOWER SOUTH HILL - What sits on three parcels, is three stories tall, clad in brick, looks damn good and is smack dab in the medical district? Why the Lower South Hill's latest medical office development proposed for the southwest corner of 6th and Howard.
Take four Lutheran Churches, a non-profit housing agency, add in a boatload of property in West Central, mix thoroughly and top it off with some solid design sense. The result is Walnut Corners a big $9 million mixed-income, mixed use development on two sites.

WEST FIRST - Just when you think West First has become nothing more than a collection of condos, litigation and Blu-Ray DVDs in walks a new boutique for the ladies. Opening extremely soon, like July 5th, Tangerine is dubbed the Ultimate Closet for Women and occupies the ground floor storefront of the old Oddfellows Hall (a.k.a. the Centerstage Building) at 1019 West First.

A new art space is putting the finishing touches on their new downtown location. Art, Music and More will focus entirely on local, independent artists operating in a variety of mediums...just like the name says (visual arts, books, film, and music). The new space is located on 2nd Ave and Howard just around the corner from the Interplayers Theater.
Their mission is simple: To raise the visibility of smaller, lesser-known artists by providing them a physical and online presence to reach new customers and admirers. Artists' work can be browsed online quite easily and if you find yourself downtown, the physical space will always be an option.

From the MetroSpokane Inbox a reader gives the heads up regarding a massive data gathering event on pedestrian activity in the Spokane Region.
"The Spokane Regional Health District, Spokane Regional Transportation Council, the City of Spokane and the Regional Pedestrian Plan Committee are developing a Spokane Regional Pedestrian Plan, and they have a survey that they want people to take so they can build the plan better accordingly."
"The survey ends on June 23rd, It'd be great to get a bunch of people to take this so we can get them proper information about where we are walking."
Greenstone has repackaged and relaunched the official Telido Station website with a new logo (1920s interurban rail), some preliminary renderings, and a site plan. The new info is appreciated, refreshing and gives some idea as to what's next out in Liberty Lake: Lots of retail.
