Awesome idea. I would totally participate in something like that in my neighborhood, especially if the cars had to be human powered!

Interestingly enough, the South Perry Business & Neighborhood Association www.southperry.com had investigated the possibility of a soap box derby on the Perry hill. It's a huge undertaking, but I think it would be well worth it. What about a neighborhood sledding day on the hill? (I know it is hard to think positively about snow).


If I remember correctly, the soap box derby was moved from Post Street because the people who now live in the neighborhood complained about the road closures, people, etc. That's how it ended up in the valley, where it has been embraced.

The derbies were, and are, fun. Would be good to see more of them around the area.


A shame. A sixty-year tradition...gone. Wonder if people feel the same about Bloomsday or Hoopfest...
