With the Census releasing population estimates for 2006 just last week, we took a look at how the Inland NW stacked up against the Pacific NW. We compared Couer d' Alene, Spokane, Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, and Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton (someday we'll have a joint Metropolitan Statistical Area too).
Our calculation was a simple percent change over the previous year. The graph above makes it pretty clear which area is experiencing the population boom. So what's the moral of the story? CdA pretty much owns everyone else on the board, Spokane is the usual stable-and-steady, while the Pacific NW crowd is just creeping past their 2001 growth rates. We declare the Inland NW the winners.
