The excitement continues down at the construction site on 1st and Post. We now know what the true purpose of the massive west-facing blank wall on the Davenport Tower - Billboard Ad Space.
An exciting new trend for downtown Spokane the
breathtaking 4-story banner gracing the side of the soon-to-be-complete
Tower has a tag-line that reads: "The adventure begins January 2007." We should look to New York for inspiration in the exciting new field of "Architizing"-consider the Flat Iron Building ad.
Who says Christmas comes but once a year?
A new mag is set to hit newsracks around the Inland Northwest on January 2nd. For those of you interested in development, home ownership, real estate, or the like you'll probably find a friend in BUILDING Magazine. We're looking forward to an offering that has a bit more utility than Lifestyles of Spokane's Rich and Famous. Best of all it promises to be glossy and free. What's not to like?

It's never a good sign when the first two floors of an older building are boarded up. Especially when it's anywhere near the Medical District. Looking at the apartment building on 5th and Monroe it's pretty obvious this one's not long for this world.

Oh if these walls could talk. We spotted this little non-descript building on west First Avenue(pdf) listed on the MLS. The 1950s-era single story building is asking a price of $875,000 and comes complete with three vaults and three bathrooms. That's a lot of vaults for a 4,500 sqf building. More interesting though is the contents once stored there.

Over on the westside o' the state, namely King County, auto congestion can be a bear of a problem, fortunately problems often result in innovation. The problem is caused primarily by the single-occupancy-vehicle (SOV). Anti-transits loathe any bus/train that isn't filled to the brim with riders, and is often the primary argument against funding more transit versus road expansion. The same capacity issue, however, is present with SOVs-one driver+four seats=wasted capacity. Enter GOOSE Networks.
As developers experiment with downtown living in Spokane, they seem to be doing the same with web sites to promote them. More and more they're beginning to pop up all over the place. And with any number of projects in queue, we can't wait for more over-the-top marketing to come online.
With that in mind, we offer you a list of the major sites to date promoting existing and yet to begin developments.
Nothing thrills us more than to stumble across a study like the one we found on the Spokane Regional Transportation Council's (SRTC) website...especially when it's focused on the concept of bringing streetcars back to our urban core. Completed in March of 2006, the study looks at the feasibility of a streetcar system operating in and across downtown. At a heafty 109 pages (pdf-22 MB - download at your own risk) Spokane's streetcar study is comprehensive and sets the stage for making a decision of whether or not a streetcar system should be pursued.
