A slick new site is being released today by EWU's Institute for Public Policy & Economic Analysis that will allow visitors to view a variety of economic indicators relating to Spokane. It's called the Community Indicators Initiative and has been in the works for over two years. The website will provide users a view of the Spokane region and how it compares to other jurisdictions. An angle like this is rarely seen in a convenient one-stop location.
The indicators cover nine subject areas from Arts & Leisure to Public Safety, and quantify them nicely in easy to read/navigate charts and tables. Interested in how many arts-related businesses we have here in Spokane? How about the number of mortgage denials to whites and non-whites? It's nice to see a local university EWU bringing information like this to the public in a way that is accessible to almost everyone in Spokane and beyond. We'll be interested to see this data set and the web site grow and develop in the upcoming years.
The site is officially being launched today at 11:30am in a presentation to a large group of citizens at the Spokane Arena (details here). If you're just interested in visiting the site, you can check it out here: Community Indicators
