The Grizzly Condos roar onto the MLS - Browne's Addition trembles

Grizzly_condos The 1960s and 70s weren't kind decades to Browne's Addition.  One glimpse at the Broadmoor apartments is evidence enough.  Today the tradition continues.  The people who brought you this down in Peaceful Valley have unleashed their designers on Browne's Addition-The Grizzly Condos

Looking more like an extended-stay Howard Johnson, they're asking $598K for 1,900 sqf.  The description boasts, "Single floor construction with impeccable upgrades of the highest quality!"  We're going out on a limb here but when do vinyl siding and sheet metal roofing reflect "impeccable upgrades" (and yes vinyl siding has its place)?  Especially at an astonishing $315/sqf?  We're fairly certain the local chapter of AIA wasn't on a retainer.  Grizzly not included.

And here I was thinking that place was for low income housing...

You are kidding me...this is new construction? BA has enough eyesores, why did this builder think that it deserved another? Why don't developers have taste?

Uh - yeah. I;m speechless...

This is the kind fabulous project we can expect more of now that the City Council has extended the Multi-Family Tax Exempt zone to the steep slopes between Browne's Addition and Peaceful Valley.

Perhaps they'll look better if Al French designs them.

And this is new construction....? Looks like a poorly done rehab on an apartment building.

Reminds me of a Group Home or Treatment Center. It would be nice if it were located in a small town.

Do you think there's something to that whole "there's no such thing as bad press"? I'd have to think that any mention is better than no mention at all. I don't know I was actually looking at the website and they have heated underground parking and driveway and we don't even have parking plus we had to pay $2000 last month to have our condominium repainted...WHAT I WANTED GIVE FOR VINYL SIDING RIGHT NOW!! ...and not to beat a dead horse but I think that grizzly beat out front was made by Bill Sanders who I think is actually from Spokane. To each his own I guess...

Tax exempt zones can be a good thing. Poor zoning and design standards are another part of the process that is obviously missing here. We only have ourselves to blame. Have you seen the degradation in the Logan District lately? Plywood barracks built in the front yard of an exisitng home?! Slumlordism rules the day here in Spokane. Both Logan and Browne's Addition are Historic Neighborhoods. Where are any standards being applied through the city's Community Development Department or Historic Preservation Office? The standards probably don't exist, an unless we all get involved in raising the design bar, we will continue to lose treasures like the Browne's Addition. Haven't enough 60's apartments and beatiful homes chopped up into apartments caused anyone to say STOP! This latest addition is an insult to our collective intelligence..or is there any out there?

It looks like the Life Center Church...does it come with 5,000 parking stalls too?
