Bike Lanes appear on South East Boulevard
Remember that $50k approved by city council for bike lanes to be added to South East Boulevard? Well, they're in and they look pretty slick. Property owners and drivers will be pleased with the new and improved surface, and we're certain that bike commuters will be as well.
Frankly this is a win-win for the community. Parking spaces are
clearly defined as are the appropriate lanes
for cars and bikes. A section of bike lanes now extends from 34th and Regal, across 29th Avenue, and down all the way to Sherman and 2nd Avenue. Getting to the central business district from the South Hill by bike should be a much, much more
pleasant experience...not to mention that both drivers and cyclists will become more comfortable sharing the road. If anyone's given the lanes a trial run yet, chime-in in the comments section.
Off-topic a bit...
Alan Durning mentions the bike route to the airport in this post: http://www.sightline.org/daily_score/archive/2007/09/25/folds-mobile-bicycle-neglect-9
Can you suggest some better routes? I've often wanted to ride that way, but have never figured out how to do it.

I think Sunset Hiway to Spotted Road is a good route to the airport. Or you can hook up with Thorpe Road (via Spotted, then Grove). Sunset pops you out down by Gov't Way so you can go downtown or the trail. Thorpe pops you out at HW 195, so you can go into downtown or SH via Vinegar Flats -- or you can hop on the Fish Lake Trail to go out to Cheney.
One bummer about our airport is that there is no bike parking facilities. I fly to the west side for a couple days every month, so I'm interested in leaving a bike at the airport.
I sent email a while back to an administrator of the airport and she suggested locking up under the stair wells in the main parking garage. I need to find a bike that I'm ok leaving there for a few days and I'll give it a shot.

About the bikes lines: I hope they aren't done with them yet. The lanes have no bike icons on them and there seem to be no new "No Parking" signs. When I was on the street this weekend there were already several cars parked in the bike lanes.

WOOHOO for new asphalt!
The parking spot compromise is a little wonky-looking, and navigating will get interesting when there are cars seeking to park that don't look carefully for cyclists in the lane.
A victory nonetheless. Watch for news to come on a grand opening bike ride SOON.
